Hi there!

How are you? I hope you're fine and full of energy to take all the photos that we need for the photonovels!

Last week we were reviewing the past tense of verb to be. Watch this video about it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1VaMner9xs

This week we're going to review Present Continuous and There is/There are. We'll see as well how to form the past tense with regular verbs. I leave you here some notes of There is/There are:

There Are with ANY

When we want to indicate that a zero quantity of something exists we use there aren't any.
  • There aren't any people at the park.
  • There aren't any lampposts in my street.
We also use this structure with uncountable nouns:
  • There isn't any water in the glass.
  • There isn't any salt in my salad.

Questions

To form a question we place is / are in front of there.
Again we use any with plural questions or those which use uncountable nouns.
We also use there is / are in short answers.
  • Is there a cat in the house? - No, there isn't.
  • Are there any cats in the house? - Yes, there are.

How Many with Are There

If we want to find out the number of objects that exist we use How many in the following form:
How many + plural noun + are there (+ complement).
  • How many cats are there in your house?

And to say goodbye, here you have two photos of your story :):

Hello everybody!

This week has been interesting. We have finished the stories for the photonovels and have started making the storyboards in order to know what photos we need to take. We have decided that you are going to tell your stories in twelve photos. It isn't going to be easy, but we are getting ready!

Remember, next week we have to finish the storyboard and make the costumes according to the character that you are going to be.

If we have time, we will work with this song:

I leave you with some useful notes about "There is" and "There are". In the next class you will do exercises about this and we will see better how to write questions with "There is" and "There are" and the use of "any".

Positive Sentences

We use there is for singular and there are for plural.
  • There is one school bag in the classroom.
  • There are three pencils in the pencil case.
  • There is a roach in the bathroom.
  • There are many people at the party.

Contractions

The contraction of there is is there's.
  • There's a roach in the bathroom.
You can't contract there are.
  • There are birds cats in the cage.

Negative Form

The negative is formed by putting not after is or are:
  • There is not a horse in the field.
  • There are not eight children in the school.
The Negative contractions are:
There's not = There isn't
There are not = There aren't

Hi there!

We have been so busy the last week. We have been developing the stories for our photonovels. And there's a long work to do yet! But there's nothing you can't get with the effort, talent and creativity that you are showing in the class.

Today I want to give you a tool that is going to help you a lot. It's an online dictionary.

 http://www.wordreference.com/

You will find all the words that you need and not only that. In the forums you can look at solved problems about grammar, vocabulary, translations...

By the way, I leave you with an useful video about comparatives and superlatives:

Hello! I hope you have had a scary Halloween! This week has been really special. We've made a really original Halloween postcard and built up a house of horror. You had to choose a monster and create his/her house thinking about the special features of the chosen Halloween creature. For example, Dracula had in his kitchen bottles of blood instead of bottles of milk.

We were practising our best scary expressions and this was the result:

Remember the question: "What are you afraid of?" and the answer: "I'm afraid of..."

And here is the task for Wednesday. You have to watch this short chapter of Casper and answer some questions that I'm going to tell you on Monday.

Probably, you're not going to unterstand everything. Don't try to do it, because you're going to freeze! Keep calm, open your ears and your eyes, try to get the general meaning. You'll see that you understand more than you expect at the first time!

See you on Monday!!
